Say goodbye to “just getting to the end of the day”.
You deserve to look back on this time and know you were able to make the most of it.
Do you ever worry you’re losing yourself in being everything to everyone else?
Do you have the best intentions in your parenting, but then the overwhelm you feel gets in the way of being present or patient with your kids — and you go to bed feeling like letting them down?
Do you find yourself questioning whether you’re just too sensitive or anxious to be a good mum?
Do you feel shocked at the level of anger and resentment that comes up sometimes?
I’ve been there.
I’m Kirsti, Wellbeing Psychologist and mum to two deeply-feeling girls.
Becoming a mum brought so much joy and laughter into my life, but it was also the hardest thing I’d ever done. We had a rough start with a scary birth, breastfeeding difficulties, a hospital stay, and ongoing sleep deprivation. It challenged my sense of self and my marriage in ways I’d never expected.
I was grateful for my training as a Positive Psychologist to have access to numerous simple but effective tools to support my wellbeing as I grappled with exhaustion, a crushing mental load, clingyness and intense reactions from my sensitive children, and the need to feel seen by my partner — and eventually, I looked up and asked myself, “How does anyone cope without these tools?”
I shifted the focus of my coaching and workshops to support mothers, and have never looked back.
Positive Psychology is the perfect fit for time-starved, tired mums.
My work isn’t about adding to your plate: it’s about making everything you’re carrying feel lighter. I appreciate that you have no time or energy to spare.
Positive Psychology works to increase your motivation, so you actually find you have the energy to start doing the things you know will help: eating better, exercising, going to bed earlier. I rarely have to work on these directly with a client because those changes happen naturally as a result of our work.
Positive Psychology helps you let go of unnecessary pain. Motherhood is hard, but having an inner voice that takes things personally? That makes your child’s misbehaviour feel like a verdict on who they’ll grow up to be? That jumps to the worst conclusion about your partner and disregards all the good? A hundred times harder. Positive Psychology helps you to let go of all that so you can maintain a sense of perspective in tricky moments.
Positive Psychology is realistic. I only truly appreciated how easy most of the techniques are after motherhood. Think of this as a new attitude you can adopt as you go about your day - most practices take just a moment, embedded amidst the chaos. And the best part? They’re enjoyable, which is why research shows people easily keep them up long-term, winning out over common therapies like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
